Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly paid $375,000 to a woman who accused him of raping her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009.
Ronaldo’s accuser signed the three-page settlement, following an unofficial deliberation in 2010, on the condition she would drop all charges and never speak of the agreement in public, Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine reported, as relayed by the Irish Times .
The Real Madrid star, who was at the center of a separate rape accusation in 2005, has not spoken publicly of the 2009 incident, and the Portuguese lawyer who signed the document on his behalf reportedly declined to comment to the magazine.
After becoming aware of the report, a second lawyer for Ronaldo contacted the magazine, denying any wrongdoing by his client and warning them to drop the investigation.
Ronaldo, a former FIFA World Player of the Year, was arrested in 2005 on suspicion of sexually assaulting two women in a penthouse suite in London. Another man, allegedly with Ronaldo at the scene, also was questioned by police.
A 20-year-old with Manchester United at the time, Ronaldo denied all claims, and the charges against him were dropped a month later due to insufficient evidence.
Real Madrid is counting on Ronaldo, 32, to lead them to a second straight Champions League title this year.
